Child custody issues, whether they occur in Westchester, New York, or elsewhere, can be one of the most contentious topics when it comes to the subject of divorce. In a recent child custody related case, an East Coast woman has been charged with multiple criminal counts that stemmed from a confrontation with the police in relation to a child custody issue.
On June 30 the woman was found attempting to escort a child away from a business location. Reportedly, the child was already with a lawful guardian when the accused did this. The issue was reported to the authorities. Police rushed to the site immediately after receiving the report. The police department said that the call was about a child custody issue.
Police say that when the accused was contacted by authorities, she became uncontrollable. Police reports indicate that she used abusive language towards the officers. The accused also threatened to harm an employee at the business from where she was trying to pick up the child. Four children seated in the woman's vehicle witnessed the incident, reports say. After the scuffle, the woman was placed under arrest and taken to the local police department.
The woman now faces criminal charges, including several counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The accused was also charged with terroristic threatening. The accused was charged and released on bond. The bond was unsecured and worth $5,500.
When child custody related issues become volatile, the safety and security of the child involved can come into question. In such cases, an experienced family law attorney may be able to provide valuable assistance and further the best interests of the child.
