Director's wife gets three homes, alimony in divorce settlement

Divorce can be hard, both emotionally and financially, for any couple. A couple may be overwhelmed with issues such as child custody, property division and spousal support. But, celebrity couples face additional matters to be handled during divorce. Since it seems like every move of a celebrity couple is tracked by the media, they may face a hard time during a divorce settlement due to their notoriety. For instance, movie director Rupert Sanders, who reportedly had a fling with actress Kristen Stewart, the extra level of public scrutiny has affected the marital property distribution in his divorce.

According to sources, Rupert was married for 10 years after his wife gave up a lucrative career to relocate to Hollywood to support her husband's career. However, in 2012 images of Sanders kissing Stewart were splashed all over the media, so much so that subsequently Sanders' wife filed for divorce.

Recently, the high net worth divorce between the couple was finalized. While Rupert got a vintage van and a beach house, his ex-wife was given most of the property and assets. Under the divorce settlement she will get $25,000 a month in spousal support for four years, as well as residences in London and California. Additionally, half of their bank accounts and 15 percent of the profits from Rupert's movies will go to his ex-wife. The couple will share joint custody of their children, with Sanders paying 75 percent of the children's school and medical fees and $14,000 per month in child support.

A couple involved in a high asset divorce has to deal with complex and unique issues due to the substantial amount of finances and investments involved. Division of property and assets may also be complex due to retirement plans, stock options, professional licenses and trusts, along with family businesses and real estate.
