Real Housewife of New York star finalizes divorce

Many people in New York may be fans of the reality television show the "Real Housewives of New York." Fans of the show are probably aware that Bethenny Frankel has been going through a bitter divorce for over three years now. Well, she recently finalized it and is now officially divorced.

The couple was fighting mainly over money at this point, as the couple resolved the custody portion of the divorce in 2014. Frankel is believed to have netted about $100 million from her Skinny Girl beverage line. The couple also had been fighting over who would receive the couple's loft in Tribeca.

Any divorce can be complicated due to the nature of the proceeding. People generally do not get divorced when they are perfectly happy with their spouse and arguments ensue. However, divorces like Frankel's can be even more complicated because it is a high-asset divorce.

Couples in high-asset divorces may have multiple properties that both people want, they may have successful businesses that need to be divided and they also may have extensive investments, retirement accounts, collectables and other valuable assets. It is also not as simple as just dividing the property. Many times the exact value of the assets is unknown and the couple will need to utilize various professionals, such as property appraisers, business appraisers, forensic accountants and others, to determine the value before any division occurs.

Many couples in New York divorce every year. These divorces come in all forms and each one is unique because each marriage is unique. Those with few assets may not have a difficult time dividing them, but high-asset divorces can be the exact opposite and can be very complicated.
