Former member of the Fugees seeks to modify child support

There are many people in New York who were fans of the Fugees. The group had many hits together before going out on their own. Pras Michel was one of the members of the group. He is now trying to lower his child support obligation. He is currently ordered to pay $4,800 per month but is seeking to lower that to $500.

His claim is that his financial advisor may have illegally taken his money. However, his ex's attorney stated that was hard to believe since Pras recently posted photos of him next to a new Lamborghini and with expensive watches. He also stated that Pras had not been paying his current child support obligation, which Pras also blamed on his financial advisor.

There are many people who are ordered to pay child support in New York. In many situations the child support order may be in effect for many years and as people know throughout one's life circumstances change and sometimes the change in the circumstances effect the person's financial situation for the worse. If this occurs the parent may no longer be able to able to pay the amount they were originally ordered to pay.

In these situations the parent may be able to modify child support to accurately reflect their current financial situation. If the parent can demonstrate a change in the circumstances that is not voluntary they may be able to lower child support payments.

Many parents in New York pay their child support on time every month for years. However, that does not mean that circumstances cannot change and even if they wanted to continue paying child support, they are no longer able to do that. Parents in this situation may want to attempt to modify their child support obligation. These are very fact specific situations though and consulting with an experienced attorney may be beneficial.
